Ruth's Story

Pupils will enjoy watching an interesting interview with Ruth Kohner, daughter of Edith and Franz, administrators of the farm, in which she describes what life was like for a child during the war on the farm. She came to the farm aged two and a half with her family, after escaping from Czechoslovakia in 1939.  She says she can only remember happy times on the farm and that the family was fortunate to have escaped together.

Ruth now lives in South Belfast and has never returned to her native country as, she says, there is nothing left for her there but sadness. Ruth kindly shared her personal recollections, photographs and family sotries with the Museum as this resource was compiled and attended the formal launch. The story of other members of the Kohner family is told in the book, My Father's Roses.
