Tours.jpgThe Museum provides a wide range of tours and talks for community, cultural and tourist groups.

Guided Tours for Groups

  • Guided tour of the old Gaol and Museum galleries (45 minutes or 1 ½ hours)
  • Walking tour of Downpatrick (1 ½ to 2 hours)
  • Behind the scenes tours (1 ½ hours)
Bus Tours

If you are visiting us with your own bus transport we can offer the following bus tours for your group:

  • Bus tour of sites of the 1798 rebellion (half day)
  • Bus tour of Early Christian sites in Lecale (half or whole day options)
We also provide a number of outreach services to groups including handling sessions either at the Museum or with objects brought out to your centre. Choose from: toys and games, Victorian days, costume, WWII, local photographs, life in the recent past, worklife, homelife, childhood.

Staff at the Museum are also available to deliver a range of talks on a variety of themes. Choose from the following:

  • The story of the Downpatrick High Cross
  • The High Cross extension project at Down County Museum
  • The Museum’s collections (general talk or more specific ones available on archaeology, works of art, archives, cameras, ceramics, geology, maps, numismatics, postcards, objects relating to childhood, farming, medicine, religion, sport, war, transport etc)

Other Facilities for Groups
  • The Cathedral View Tearoom serves lunches and snacks.
  • The Museum shop sells a wide range of local crafts and souvenirs.

  • Leaflets on the history of County Down produced by the museum are available in Polish, Lithuanian, Slovakian, Cantonese, Urdu, Hindi, Portugese
