Ballykinlar History Hut Roadshow and Project Launch

Join us to help investigate the lives of those who spent time in Ballykinlar Camp during the first half of the 20th century, especially during the period 1914-1921. As part of the 'Decade of Centenaries', the ‘Ballykinlar History Hut’ will be recreated in the Museum in 2019. It will house stories of soldiers, internees, refugees and others who were in the Camp. We invite you to explore the lives of your ancestors, record and preserve their stories and memorabilia. Bring in your artefacts, letters, photographs, diaries and autograph books for the project team to record.

The Man from God Knows Where with Jane Cassidy and Maurice Leyden

Thomas Russell, ‘The man from God knows where’ was the Gaol’s most famous prisoner. Executed at the door in 1803 and buried in Downpatrick, he was a centrally important figure in the foundation of the Society of United Irishmen. Folk-singers, writers & broadcasters, Jane Cassidy and Maurice Leyden, tell the story of this remarkable man, through eye-witness accounts of his life and times, extracts from Russell’s diary, woven together with local traditional songs, expressing the drama and pathos of that ‘time of the hurry’,
